Dan L. Frederick

Dan L Frederick, 42, a Masonic leader in Washington D.C. and throughout the country and the world, died on August 18, 2002, in Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, from complications of pancreatitis and cancer.

MWB Dan L Frederick served in the highest positions of Freemasonry in Washington. He was Grand Master of Masons of Washington DC in 1999, and Grand High Priest of Royal Arch Masons of Washington DC in 1983. He achieved the highest honors in all areas of Freemasonry, including the 33rd Degree in the Scottish Rite. He was also very active in the Order of DeMolay, a youth organization related to Freemasonry, where he received the Legion of Honor award.

He was a founder and Assistant Executive Director and Finance Director of Youth Leaders International, an organization that promotes intercultural understanding among youth of the world by bringing them together in Washington DC and other places in the world each year for educational and fun activities. Prior to this, he was the business manager at M. Stein Co., one of the oldest and leading tuxedo rental and sales stores in Washington DC.

One of his proudest achievements as Grand Master of Masons was bringing about official recognition between the Grand Lodge of DC and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of DC, thus promoting racial brotherhood in our area. He also helped organize Masonic organizations in Portugal, Romania, Armenia, Russia, and Cuba, and he was active in the World Conference of Masonic Grand Masters.

He was the only son and youngest child of Vincent Charles and Jeanne Marie McDannel Frederick. He was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania on August 7, 1960. He had two sisters, Debbie Healy and Dawn Puzzitiello, and one nephew Seth Shaun Healy. He is survived by his parents, sisters, and nephew, an "adopted older brother" Jerold J. Samet, and by hundreds of thousands of Masonic brothers throughout the world.
